Linda McLean’s key looks

Smudgetikka

Linda McLean, founder of designer kids blog Smudgetikka, styles her favourite Marie-Chantal looks for Autumn/Winter 2013.

“I love the Marie Chantal kids’ fashion collection for fall/winter 2013 for the great contrasts between luxe fabrics such as sequins, tulle and fur mixed with the more down-to-earth tweeds and cords. The quality of the fabrics and the make is exceptional.

The design of the collection is sophisticated but it hasn’t lost a touch of fun with, for example, the angel wings on the back of a cashmere sweater or the metallic thread in the girls’ monochrome tweed jacket.”

I chose to mix the camel tailored cord jacket with unexpected grey tones for a fresh look for this autumn. The normal way to wear tan cord is usually with autumnal chocolate or green for a countryside vibe, but I love the modern urban effect achieved by mixing it with grey tones and a hoody top underneath, finished off with a cool pair of Converse sports shoes.

Focusing on grey for another look, using a suit jacket but this time with the co-ordinated twist of mustard jeans and a mustard fine trim on the soft V-neck sweater. This is more of a fashion look – yellow has been coming through in kidswear for a couple of seasons and looks to still be a strong colour for next spring 2014 as well.

Look 3

This is a very luxe party look with sequin shorts and a cropped fur jacket to contrast textures that will work right through the winter months. A soft cashmere sweater underneath with angel wing embroidery will keep children warm in the colder months too but has a touch of fun about it. This look is dressed up but deceptive as the shorts allow a great range of movement for party games.

Sometimes little girls just want to feel special and there is nothing they love more than a tu-tu skirt. I have put this gold version together with the cropped jacket and a smarter blouse for a look that is more smart daywear than party time. It’s perfect for a smart restaurant visit or a little bit of weekend shopping.
